Job Title: Correctional Behavioral Health Counselor Location: Varied Locations Employment Type: Varied by Location Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and empathetic Behavioral Health Counselor to provide mental health support to incarcerated individuals. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in behavioral health and a strong commitment to working with justice-involved populations. This role involves direct counseling, program facilitation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to address the unique mental health needs of those in custody. Key Responsibilities: Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address mental health and substance use disorders. Perform comprehensive behavioral health assessments and develop personalized treatment plans. Facilitate evidence-based therapeutic programs (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, anger management). Collaborate with correctional staff, medical teams, and community partners to ensure continuity of care. Maintain accurate and confidential documentation in compliance with legal and ethical standards. Provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention support as needed. Promote a safe and respectful environment for clients and staff. Qualifications: Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field. Licensure or certification as [e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent] preferred. Experience working with justice-involved individuals or in a correctional setting is a plus. Strong understanding of mental health disorders, addiction, and trauma-informed care practices. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
